RACE

The first clue box teams were directed to was at the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy (ECHA) which is also where the double U-Turn was encountered. Unfortunately, Team Wasted Potential and Team Thunder Face had to complete both sides of the upcoming Detour. Abby and Paulo strategically performed both Detours simultaneously while Eric and Paul decided to use their Express Pass! Teams had to choose to complete one of two challenges for the Detour, “Spread the Word” or “Share the Knowledge.” In “Spread the Word,” teams searched campus for ten (10) “The Amazing Race Edmonton” posters and recorded the featured race locations. Posters are still a commonly accepted method for student groups to advertise events on campus. In “Share the Knowledge,” teams proceeded to the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS) and answered ten (10) questions pertaining to the building’s construction which has architectural design elements modelled after scientific principles.

The Fast Forward also made an appearance during this leg of the race. Team Italian Stallions was the only team to attempt and successfully complete the Fast Forward! Nicole and Matt had to proceed to the “Geoscience Garden” and record the identification number of three (3) rocks. The difficulty with this challenge is not only searching for the rocks amongst the eighty-seven (87) others, but some of the rocks also have the exact same names but different identification numbers. Team Italian Stallions narrowed down the search area by answering a series of bonus questions that ranged in topics from anthropology to engineering.

After solving the Detour challenge and unlocking a locker in the Natural Resources Engineering Facility (NREF), teams discovered they had to run across campus to Rutherford House to reveal the location of the Pit Stop. Upon checking into the Pit Stop at the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS), teams had to perform a Road Block which required both contestants to work together and recite a tongue-twisting poem. Katie and Alex of Team Baditude rapped their way to victory in this challenge!
