The First Session of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta was commenced on March 15, 1906 and held at Edmonton’s Thistle rink and later McKay Avenue School. It was not until 1912 that the magnificent marble structure known to Edmontonians today as “the Ledge” was erected on a precipitous above the river valley. The grounds surrounding the Legislature building offer a variety of summer and winter activities including festivals like Cariwest, wading in the outdoor pool or free guided tours of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

The 100th Street Funicular is a landmark of Edmonton’s North Saskatchewan River Valley that shows how we are creating a connected city. The funicular was awarded an urban design award by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 2020 and was the last stop in “The Amazing Race Edmonton” 2019! Here, contestants were tasked with correctly ordering the Legacy Public Art Projects that line Capital Boulevard which they travelled along earlier (hopefully they were paying attention). Upon completion, teams received their final clue and the race to the Finish Line was underway using Edmonton Transit Service’s (ETS) Light Rail Transit (LRT)!

The Finish Line for The Amazing Race Edmonton was situated near the Centennial Flame to the south of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Our first two (2) teams crossed with Finish Line with only seconds between them!

Two (2) cities, twelve (12) destinations, fifty-one (51) kilometres, below are the official results of The Amazing Race Edmonton 2019!

  • First Place: Team Frenchies ~ Kara and Max
  • Second Place: Team Up Dog ~ Kaitlyn and Brandon
  • Third Place: Team Wasted Potential ~ Abby and Paulo
  • Fourth Place: Team Trendy and Unnecessary ~ Lauren and Jennifer
  • Fifth Place: Team Thunder Face ~ Eric and Paul
  • Sixth Place: Team Are We There Yet ~ Kyle and Jenna
  • Seventh Place: Team Italian Stallions ~ Nicole and Matt
  • Eighth Place: Team Baditude ~ Katie and Alex

Congratulations to all our teams for crossing the Finish Line! You all should be very proud for completing such a difficult and exhausting race! Thank you to all the volunteers who were part of the Race Operations Group; without your time and efforts the race would not have been possible!
