SECOND LEG – EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

DESTINATION

The Edmonton International Airport (EIA or YEG) opened in 1960 to keep up with air demand that could not be supported by the Edmonton City Centre Airport. Today, the airport is the fifth busiest in Canada serving over seven million passengers annually and is the fastest growing major airport in Canada. This is reflected in the construction of the “Airport City” which includes businesses such as the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel and Premium Outlets Collection mall that call the airport home.

The EIA is located at:

RACE

Teams took advantage of On-Airport Transit, a transit service that shuttles people around the “Airport City,” and parked at the Premium Outlets Collection. Upon arriving at the main terminal, contestants first had to collect the airport’s trading card from the designated information desk, they then proceeded to search for their next clue on the terminal’s Observation Deck. The Detour for this leg of the race required teams to answer question pertaining to air carriers that serviced the Edmonton International Airport or Jack Shadbolt’s mural called “Bush Pilot in Northern Sky” painted in 1963. Team Spinks and Team Wasted Potential attempted the Fast Forward which required contestants to indicate the name of a country, province or state when supplied with the geographic region’s flag. Team Spinks won the optional Fast Forward challenge after Team Wasted Potential accidentally went to the wrong location to check their answers. This leg of the race also featured a Road Block challenge that utilized the “Our Heritage – The story of our employees” map located on the Observation Deck.
